Archigardener Blog

The Archigardener Blog (formerly urbanARCHnow.com) was founded by Jonathan Choe in 2010 as a means to share projects, thoughts & travels while studying architecture in Chicago & Paris, working in Singapore, and travelling to almost 50 countries across the world. While working for over a decade as an architect, it has grown into one of Singapore’s most popular design websites with tens of thousands of monthly pageviews.

The blog has now evolved into a platform for some of my own work and thoughts on the intersection of architecture & urbanism with skyrise greenery. Media enquiries can be directed to admin@archigardener.com.

Archigardener was founded by Jonathan Choe. Born in the United States, Jonathan studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago & Paris, and has more than a decade of experience designing sustainable architectural projects of many types and scales as an Associate at WOHA Architects in Singapore.

Walking up & down #GuildfordLane made me dream of entire cities that are as carefully curated & cultivated as this! Far too often the #publicrealm is treated as a residual space and no one takes ownership over it (except Japan). @avontuura sent over their super cool new #architecture travel guides and the #SingaporeArchitecture one is giving me major #architravel flashbacks! The rest are giving me #wanderlust, which one would you like to use first? If you have, lmk if you need a designer 😅 #archigardener Would you Work From Greenhouse? Humans need natural light just as much as plants do, and in cities we crave connection to nature. Can we live, work & play in spaces designed for us to thrive together with nature? Have you ever seen a less attractive building facade than this one that looks like they accidentally put the #AutoCAD stone hatch on it? 😅🤮 Would you WFG at that desk? Can we live, work & play in spaces designed for us to thrive together with nature? #KoreanBBQ is a family tradition and this is the way I do it at home with a custom built BBQ table. The menu usually consists of several types of beef and pork marinated in family recipes, lamb chops, grandma’s chap chae, soy braised pumpkin or potato; homemade tofu, pickled cucumber, and quail egg banchan; several store bought banchan like pickled radishes and kimchi, grilling mushrooms & garlic, at least two types of seaweed, steamed Korean rice, special sauces, lettuce, and freshly harvested organic shiso leaves from the garden. Thinking back I might have been too harsh on the #FitzroyConservatory because they had these amazing stacked fern basket towers! Still haven’t been inside this epic #greenhouse at @melbournemuseum to see the native plant collection but it looks pretty spectacular from #CarltonGardens with the #MelbourneSkyline behind it!
