This weekend, I went to check out The Future of Us, an interesting pseudo-architectural exhibition which features a utopian vision of Singapore’s future.

For me, the highlight of the exhibition is the purpose-built parametric series of domes that houses it. The structure is located adjacent to the iconic Gardens by the Bay, and was designed by a team of students, researchers & faculty from the Singapore University of Technology & Design.

The massive aluminium structure was parametrically designed with thousands of unique digitally fabricated components meant to evoke the quality of light found in a tropical rainforest.

The exhibition content is contained within a series of geodesic domes, the first of which contains an immersive 360 degree projection video with tales of Singaporean’s dreams for the future.

Another room contains a panoramic vision of a sustainable future complete with a projection mapped model. The final dome is filled with semi-architectural models floating among artificial clouds. The exhibits are decidedly meant for mass-market appeal, but there are some interesting concepts thrown into the mix and the experience definitely provides the head space to dream about the future.

The feel-good exhibition is a fitting culmination to Singapore’s SG50 jubilee anniversary celebrations, and worth a visit.
